Wednesday I spent all day with my camera. I know you are thinking, “ummm Andie, aren’t you a photographer. Don’t you spend everyday with your camera”. Yes I do, but not everyday with it in my hands…all day! It was great!
The morning started with a private lesson. (yes I do teach private lessons thru video chat or in person, or a mixture of both. e-mail me for more details) “They” say you don’t know your craft until you teach it. THIS IS SOOO TRUE! My camera is an extension of my arm, My mind tells my fingers what settings need to be changed, and they do it…it has become subconsious. I shoot what I see, but don’t slow down and think about the basics. When I teach a 101 class, I am explaining the very basics of photography to someone with little knowledge of the camera, and science behind it, in turn I slow down and think about the camera in my hands. I spent the day “double checking” myself; am I holding the camera right (check), am I composing then focusing (check)…the list goes on.
After the lesson, I headed to Fort Worth to hang out with my friend Kathy who was in town from Tulsa. We roamed around the stockyards. Yeah I know, I go a zillion times a year. I love it! I always find new details, and with a new person to shoot with, I found even more. I had two things working for me Wednesday, 1. shooting with a new person, and 2. I was thinking of the basics, from the morning of teaching. WOW!! The results?? Fun different pictures! Here is a sample:

I go into the place every time I am at the Stockyards to buy water (or Dublin Dr Pepper) the back wall is a giant Dr Pepper sign. That is what I notice…this trip I realized bear bottles, and art work on the walls. The owner has one of the largest collections of Texas art! All this time all I saw was the Dr Pepper sign. Note to self: slow down!

This one is getting framed for my office (and maybe some friends offices too choughchrisbaylorcough)
